In this body of work, I use self-portraits and the evocative symbol of red thread to explore the intricate relationship between love and loneliness—two emotions that often coexist in tension. For me, the red thread represents the profound connection between oneself and a loved one, akin to the bond formed when carrying a baby in the womb and giving birth. It is a lifeline, both physical and emotional, that ties us to others in the most intimate ways. The red thread becomes a central metaphor in my work, symbolizing love’s enduring presence while also embodying the fragility and isolation that emerge when such connections fray. Each portrait serves as a visual diary, capturing the complex layers of my emotional experience.
